Naomi, Summer Work Placement

Naomi is a Hayes resident who has recently completed her A-levels in English, Psychology, and Geography at Swakeleys School in Uxbridge.

She has secured a place to study BSc Quantity Surveying at Reading University, building on her strong academic achievements and practical work experience.Before joining Higgins, Naomi gained experience with HS2 SCS JV and Kensington and Chelsea Council, where she developed an early interest in quantity surveying.

Beyond her academic and professional pursuits, Naomi has been active in her community, running a craft and Lego club at Charville Library and supervising a Girl Guides troupe in Hayes. She has also achieved the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award (currently working towards Silver) and the Jack Petchey “Talk to Talk” Award, in addition to recently passing her driving test on the first attempt.

On Site:
Naomi completed her work placement with Higgins at the Hayes Town Centre and Avondale Drive projects, where she worked alongside the Quantity Surveying (QS) team. Her responsibilities included reviewing subcontractor valuations, submitting payments, and comparing materials invoiced against purchase orders to ensure accurate cost control. She also gained valuable on-site exposure, assessing painting and decoration works and learning how progress on site links directly to commercial responsibilities. Naomi found the QS team Tom, Keziah, and Harry to be approachable and highly supportive, guiding her step by step through new tasks and encouraging her to ask questions.

Her placement gave her first-hand insight into the commercial side of construction, where she learnt to use tools such as Excel and Outlook, developed strong attention to detail, and grew in confidence when contributing to team discussions.

Future Goals:
Naomi’s ambition is to complete her degree in Quantity Surveying and continue her professional journey with Higgins. She hopes to secure a placement or scholarship during her studies, with the long-term goal of
becoming a Graduate Quantity Surveyor at Higgins. Her experience has confirmed her passion for the profession and motivated her to remain determined and ambitious in her career journey.
