Yasin, Summer Work Experience

Yasin Ahmed grew up in Hayes and is currently doing his A-Levels in Maths, Physics, and Chemistry at Rosedale College. He has completed a BTEC Level 3 in Engineering, demonstrating his strong interest in technical fields. As Vice President of his school and head of the student council, Yasin has developed his leadership skills by proposing initiatives to the Headmaster and encouraging collaboration amongst students.
Yasin's interest in construction began after attending an open day at a Morgan Sindall construction site, where he learned about various roles and processes. This curiosity led him to a two-week placement at Higgins Partnerships on the Avondale Project.
On Site:
During his placement, Yasin was involved in practical site activities, including learning about the creation of concrete pillars, floors and ceilings directly on-site. He also gained experience in interpreting construction drawings and conducting risk assessments, supported by the Site Manager and Senior Site Manager.
Throughout the placement, Yasin had the opportunity to develop three Essential Skills: Speaking, Listening and Teamwork. This is a core part of the work placement programme, developed in collaboration with Skills Builder Partnerships. He felt included in daily operations and was encouraged to participate, which enriched his understanding and engagement. Yasin appreciated the inclusive and welcoming culture at Higgins Partnerships, noting that “he always felt supported and valued by his colleagues on site.”
Future Goals:
Yasin plans to complete his A-levels and pursue a degree in Engineering, with a particular interest in securing more work placements in construction. He aims to undertake a Degree Apprenticeship, allowing him to combine further education with
practical experience.
“I’ve gained invaluable hands-on experience and confidence working at Higgins Partnerships. This opportunity has solidified my passion for construction and engineering and I’m excited to continue building my future in this industry.”
